‘Youth Algorithms’ & ‘Incentive’ (2013 - 2014) - the early acoustic years
'I decided to start this project off by simply writing and performing songs with an acoustic guitar. This led to me releasing my very first EP 'Youth Algorithms' in 2013. Listeners might notice my vocals sounding a lot more huskier on this particular EP, to which I can only attribute to me listening to a lot of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen at the time.
In the period after releasing 'Youth Algorithms', I recorded 'Incentive' - an extended collection of acoustic-based songs which were publicly released in 2014’.
CHANGELINGS ‘Poppyfields’ (2016) - a debut album consisting of Dream Pop & Indie Rock tunes
‘Poppyfields’ was recorded in 2016 at SAE University, Melbourne. The sessions were headed up by Ryan Haustorfer and features instrumental contributions from Tom Grubb (electric guitar), Nyle Gibbens (bass) and Ryan himself (drums and percussion). All three of them had made up the live band at the time.
To understand ‘Poppyfields’, one would need to go back and listen to the ‘Human Abstracts’ EP from 2015, as the project’s debut record was very much suppose to be a musical continuation of that EP.
I knew straight away how I wanted the project’s first album to sound…melodic and poppy’.
‘Almost immediately after the release of ‘Poppyfields’, I sought to record a follow-up album with the intention of concluding the project’s time within the indie pop genre. For this one I chose to employ a DIY recording approach not only to complement the bedroom pop aesthetic of the album, but for it to also serve as a nod to how some independent musicians are producing their music today - literally in a small bedroom.
Listeners may find this second release introducing more synth, beat and electronic elements to CHANGELINGS’ music’.
